Teeth whitening is a treatment that uses a whitening agent – normally hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide – to target and penetrate the surface enamel of the teeth. This then effectively breaks down the discoloured molecules that may be present, leaving the teeth looking whiter and brighter than before.
The exact format of your treatment will depend on whether you choose an entirely home-based teeth whitening system or a combination system. We offer both Enlighten® Evolution and White Dental Beauty to our patients, allowing you to choose which treatment fits with both your lifestyle and your smile ambitions.
In both treatments, you’ll be fitted for whitening trays here at the practice, which will then be made for you off-site. When the trays are ready to be worn home, you’ll choose which gel formula you’d prefer to use, and proceed to wear the gel and trays for two weeks or so. At this point, you may then come back into the practice to receive your in-chair treatment.
This depends on which treatment you choose, your lifestyle habits, and the shade of your teeth at the beginning of the treatment. We can’t predict exactly how much brighter your teeth will be, but we do know that our patients who receive teeth whitening treatments love the results and the boost to their smile confidence.
This also varies from patient to patient, with results lasting anywhere from three months to three years. Most patients choose to use teeth brightening toothpaste, such as those made by Enlighten® Evolution, and you can always return to the practice for a top-up treatment as needed.
